►Greek Mythology: “Artemis´Dual Archetype” / “Collaboration with Resa McConaghy and Mirjana M. Inalman”🌛🏹.
_______________________________________________________________
Artemis (Roman Equivalent: Diana) is often depicted in two ways: as a huntress goddess and as the goddess of the Moon.
Artemis was the first-born child of Zeus and Leto. Her mother was forbidden by jealous Hera to give birth anywhere on the earth but the floating island of Delos provided her sanctuary. Immediately after her birth, Artemis helped her mother deliver Apollo for which she is sometimes called a goddess of childbirth.
Before Artemis became goddess of the moon, the Titaness Selene owned the Moon chariot, which she drove across the sky at night. When Typhon began his path of destruction to Mount Olympus, Selene rode into battle with the moon chariot. Therefore, soon after, Artemis was the legatee of the carriage. In the same way, Apollo received the Chariot of the Sun, once the sun of Helios became identified with him.
Furthermore, in Greek mythology, there are many goddesses associated with the moon. These include Selene, the personification of the moon itself, Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, and Hecate, the goddess of crossroads and witchcraft.
Together Artemis, Selene and Hecate embody the phases of the moon. Many depictions of Selene show her wearing a crescent moon, and one of Hecate’s symbols includes the dark circle of the new moon.
Artemis is one of the goddesses that make up the triple goddess symbol:
•The Maiden -waxing moon- Artemis, represents the huntress on earth
•The Mother -full moon- Selene, represents the moon in the heavens
•The Crone -waning moon- Hecate, represents the underworld
Probably the state of the moon was given to Artemis solely to compliment the depiction of her twin brother Apollo, the Sun God, during the time when the blending of the Greek and Roman Pantheon took place.
In her two sides, Artemis is mostly seen as the Goddess of Hunt, where she wears a short tunic with her hair into a ponytail, holding a bow and quiver and mostly with her golden stag. When she is the Goddess of the Moon, she wears a long gossamer dress and has her hair held up.
In contrast to the primarily social community that made up the Greek Pantheon, Artemis has been depicted throughout mythos as keeping fairly isolated.
When Artemis was presented to Zeus for the first time as a small child, the father bequeathed his child whatever she desired.
Artemis is, moreover, like Apollo, unmarried.
She is a maiden divinity never conquered by love. The priests and priestesses devoted to her service were bound to live pure and chaste, and transgressions of their vows of chastity were severely punished.
Artemis is considered one of the virgin goddesses on Mount Olympus besides Athena and Hestia.
However, Jean Bolen in her book “Artemis: The Indomitable Spirit in Every woman” clarifies that the term “virgin” does not necessarily denotes “chastity”, but rather that a woman governed by the Artemis´archetype is “psychologically virginal”, free and untamed. She may love but she will never give herself over entirely, or her freedom will be at risk.
Artemis ´s love towards Orion, the sole icon of romantic love, ends tragically.

This second part of the post on Artemis consists of a collaboration with Resa McConaghy and Mirjana M. Inalman.
Resa is an artist and costume designer from Canada.
Mirjana (AKA Oloriel) is a Serbian artist, writer and poet.
Resa invited us to join us in a project aiming to recreate Artemis´manifold attributes.
Taking into account the purposes of this project, Resa created a beautiful gown based on Artemis while Mirjana wrote a great poem as a poetic tribute to the goddess .
So, with that being said, let´s move on to the collaboration at issue!.
____________________________________________________
Resa created a stunning gown. She named it “Artemis by Moonlight”. She chose an abstract animal print and copper satin for the tails.
She painted part of the fabric with iridescent metallic paint. Besides she added satin tubes and braids to adorn the gown. Both the rounded tail and the moon shaped copper amulet mimic Artemis as the Goddess of the Moon. The ending product stands out! 😀
Want to see more?. Please check out Resa´s post “Artemis by Moonlight”, on her blog Art Gowns.

Invoking the Huntress
The crescent beckons a heave,
a touch upon your corners,
reveals
a light brewing
not like a thunderstorm, or a torrent,
but a sickle ready to brand you
in red-
you will be
like two eyes among the pines,
as she lowers her hips downwards,
descends her bow to your forehead;
she tramples your heart with her deer,
her name preaches – You can be here, free;
free in the forest of flesh,
a dancing hunter among the cypress.
Appear.
~~~
She will give you the bear – to fold his head before you.
She will give you the wolf – its maw now your sisterhood.
She will give you the boar – the towns named after your sins but dust beneath him.
She will give you the stag – the horns ripping the night itself to drip
over mouths of dirty gold
whispering her hymns.
Her Kingdom atop the arrowhead
more eternal than the sway of day,
may
the wilderness, soft and pure, and nectar
grow out the belly
and may
it not fetter the beasts,
let them run through her chambers of your bones and chest;
let her tame them with a single breath.
~~~
Her name, like a dream of ground
wet with vine, sizzling like fire
over which the prey darkens,
her innocence unlike any altar,
her savagery unlike any temple,
she arrives
and the winds grasp for air;
Ursa major sticking from her untouched hair,
a moonlight promise,
a devotion of flame
made of her vestibule,
silvery debris
her name, Artemis.
Say.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post, dear Amalia. It was fascinating, as always! Interesting to read that the virginal state of Artemis and her nymphs ensured their strength and independence. Thanks 😘
Thanks so much, dear Elisabeth for highlighting Artemis´ features!… we are so glad to know that you enjoyed the post. I was delighted to team up with such talented women! …. Love & best wishes 😉
Love and hugs back to you!
Hello dear Aquileana,
Well, I’m all blown away by your post, and our 3 collaboration. How wonderful to be connected to you and Oloriel (Mirjana) forever in Blog World!
Although there are several charts, according to the one I am using, there is a total of 10,162.17 miles, or 16,354.43 kilometers in total between the 3 of us.
Yet, in creating this trilogy with the 2 of you, I feel no sense of distance. I feel only an immediate connection.
There’s an old B&W Cop TV series that takes place in New York City. titled “The Naked City”. 1958 – 63). At the end of each episode, after the crime was solved, a voice over informed us:
“There are a million stories in “The Naked City”. This has been one of them.”
I say now about our collaboration:
“There are 75 million sites on WordPress. This has been three of them, all rolled into 1.”
Aquileana, thank you so much for pulling it all together in this marvelous article about Artemis “Artemis´Dual Archetype”,on “La Audacia de Aquiles”.
As written by: Hughie Charles & Ross Parker, I say to you and Oloriel:
“We’ll meet again
Don’t know where
Don’t know when
But I know we’ll meet again
Some sunny day.”
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Hi there dear Resa,
What a beautiful comment… I love the geographical twist here and I have never heard of
“The Naked City”, but I will have to check it out now… Maybe in YouTube, not sure, but just the fact that you brought it to me makes me wanna watch it.
I belive the collaboration turned out great and I was delighted to team up with you and Oloriel.
Such a beautiful experinece and loved the ending result!.
Sign me in to your list for a future collaboration, please 😀 😉
Much love & best wishes to you… Happy weekend. ❤
[…] It is a wonderful part 2 of our 3 part collaboration. Aquileana has posted a marvelous essay, “Artemis’ Dual Achetype”. In this article, Aquileana smartly brings all 3 posts […]

I don’t know where to start. Every time I think this is the best post EVER here, along comes another one. You even have Resa’s beautiful gown. I am totally awed my darling, awed by the post, the detail, the words, the pictures, the poetry and the gown. Thank you barely seems adequate xxxxxx
Oh dear She 😀 ❤ thank you so much for such beautiful words… I am happy to know that you enjoyed this collaboration as much as we three enjoyed doing it … Have a great weekend. Love & best wishes ⭐
Congratulations to all. Wonderful work, wonderful collaboration and an amazing celebration of Artemis and hey, it’s my middle name too! 😉 xxxxxx Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi there, dear Marina!!!!… Thank you for appreciating our collaboration!! I would have loved to be named Artemis!… Lucky you 😀 By the way, I am now thinking of Artemis Jones, a quite well known crime investigator 😀 ❤
A-ha-ha-ha….. the nearest I’d be to an investigator would be inspector Cluzo! 😉 🙂 🙂 😀
LOL!!!! 😀 xoxo
Thanks for this background on Artemis. It’s consistent with research I’ve seen which suggests that she was a pre-patriarchal goddess whose countenance shifted (becoming a virgin and what we today would call more “traditionally feminine”) when patriarchal warriors came into the area and took over.
I suspect that Katniss of the Hunger Games is inspired by her. (Artemis, and then gradually growing more into Athena, as need dictates.)
Very interesting dear Georgia… I´d dare to say that Artemis could have seen differently and society became more open as to certain issues, women included. I see what you are pointing at, and I guess Jean Bolen´s book tends to highlight the “matriarchal features of Artemis”, so to speak. She comes back to Artemis in the Matrirachal phase if you wish. Wishing you the best! 😀
I miss my Myth Fix 🙂
How are you, my friend? Hope all’s well down there in the south.
Hi John…. thank you so much … I am doing fine… very hot days over here lately… How are you?.
Fine. Carnaval here at the moment, so that’s always fun 🙂
Right on!!!. I was in Brazil in November, you could already feel the atmosphere! 😀 😉
Interesting – a goddess could be a virgin if she had uncommitted sex. Beautiful dress – and Marijana’s art work is fabulous.
Hi there dear Jan…
True!… One could be virgin at heart: a free woman, with not attachments. This is what Bolen says in her book!. I kind of like her idea! 😉 Have a great day. Thank you for the visit & comment! 😀
As usual, you have weaved a fabulous post! I had so much fun cooperating with you and Resa and I do hope we do it again in the future!
Thanks so much for your beautiful poem, dear Oloriel. Excellent contribution! 🙂 I am looking forward to future collaborations too!. Sending love and best wishes. 😀 😉
Artemis is a really complex character with so many different roles. Thank-you for this informed post, dear Aquileana, which is so beautifully illustrated as always. I enjoyed your collaboration with Resa and Mirjana – a gown and a poem; both outstanding! Have a wonderful week xx ❤ xx
Great to read this comment!…. Thank you very much dear Clare… On Resa´s and Mirjana´s behalf as well! 😀 Love & best wishes. 😉
My pleasure! Have a great week my dear Aquileana! xx ❤ xx
Another great addition and a wonderful collaboration by all three of you.
Thanks so much dear Maverick… We much appreciate the feedback… have a lovely weekend! 😀
Very nice post.
I’m not much for fashion or poetry, but appreciate the artistry that went into the effort.
Thank you very much, dear Disperser… I am sure Mirjana will appreciate your comment!. Love & best wishes. 😀
Having been in Delphi recently, I find your post awakes beautiful memories about Apollo and the fascination I had for their stories which, to this day, may not have been surpassed. Best wishes Aquileana 🙂
Lucky you, dear Sylvie…. I enjoyed digging further into Apollo´s and Artemis´bond…. Quite fascinating! 😉 Thanks so much for dropping by and for your comment. Love & best wishes. 😀
By the way, would you happen to know where Artemis was “born” ? Thank you Aquileana 🙂
Remarkable and outstanding post. It was interesting to know about the three goddess symbol and I always have loved the name selene, now I know the meaning. Thanks for sharing. Also the gown is super stunning. 🙂 wish you a wonderful day dear. xx ❤
Thanks so much dear Arohii… Hecate´s wheel is a fascinating symbol: I am with you. It represents the Three probably most important Goddesses as well as the moon in its differents faces, so to speak… I also love the name Selena. Now we can call Selena Gomez, Moon Gómez 😀 LOL…. have a great weekend. Much love!.
🙂 I am big fan of Tejano music icon, Late. Selena Quintanilla Perez and yes along with Selena Gomez we can call her as well the Moon quintanilla. You are always welcome, my dear friend. Have an amazing week ahead. Much loves xx ❤
Oh!, I will have the check her too… See: Greek Mythology is always alive!!! 😉 Hugs my friend. Happy sunday and week ahead! 😀
yep, I agree with you Amalia. Happy sunday 😀

Dear Aquileana, with so many eclipses recently your article is timely. The creativity from Resa and Mirjana is amazing. That dress!! Thank you for sharing with us. Hugs Xx
HI there dear Jane… So true about the latest eclipses. Plus when we were discussing teh final details there was Full Moon too, something which was quite the coincidence!.
Thank you!… Love & best wishes xxxx 😀
Another compelling post on Greek mythology, Aquileana. You always impress me and keep me reading on this subject 🙂 So interesting to read there are different goddess association with the different moon phases. “triple goddess symbol” – that makes it sound like the moon is a powerful thing. And rightfully so because for some strange reason, certain things happen around certain times of the moon cycle 😀 While Artemis sounds tough (being a huntress and all), I wonder if she struggles keeping emotions to herself. Maybe that is the way she chooses to love, and to her love is more than just getting physical. Then again, love is such a complex thing…. It is hard to pinpoint what maker her vulnerable, though. Maybe her looks make her vulnerable to deception – like how Callisto made herself look like her.
Such a great collab with Resa and Mirjana. Beautiful dress and it is almost like she is making Greek mythology characters come to real life. Touching poetry and it describes Artemis’ character so well 🙂 ❤
Hi there dear Mabel… I was particularly fascinated to learn the meanings of The wheel of Hecate (or the Triple Goddesses Symbol), just like you did.
As to Artemis, her two sides could seem opposite one to the other… But as you said: there are many sides of the moon… and maybe Artemis herself was intending to protect herself from dissapointment when she decided to remain unmarried. I don´t blame her, considering how unfaithful the Greek Gods were back then ! 😉 sending love ❤ have a wonderful weekend. ⭐
Always wonderful, Dear Aquileana, always
My best to you
john
Thank you very much dear John. Very pleased to know that you enjoyed the collaboration… Love & best wishes 😀
This made me smile and ponder and share so others can do the same.
Thank you all, simply wonderful! 🙂

Gros bisous ma brillante amie !
Always mesmerizing dear Aquileana , thank you once more for such clear inspiration ! ( I adore Resas art gown too , and Mirjanas poetry )
Sending love to all your creativity
Thank you very much, dear Meg. We are beyond appreciative for your comment!: Sending you love & all my best wishes! 😉
What a lovely collaboration, Aquileana. I was specifically named after Artemis (Diana) and as a little girl had a fascination with the myth. This is a much more mature analysis of her role and symbolism, which I hadn’t considered. I love the addition of Resa’s beautiful “Artemis by Moonlight” and Mirjana’s portrait and poem. Great post!
Diana ❤ It is a beautiful name and I would have loved to be called that way too… Artemis & Athena are definitely my favourite greek Goddesses 😀 Love & best wishes!

Thank you very much dear Balroop. Very pleased to know that you enjoyed the post and loved Resa´s gown and MIrjana´s poem!!!!… Sending love and best wishes! 😀

Thank you for this astounding post about the multifaceted Goddess Artemis, and the great collaboration from Resa McConaghy, and Mirjana M. Inalman.
Now this collaboration between other bloggers has become one of your signature features. 🙂
Thank you kindly for such nice wors… I like to team up with other bloggers… It takes the post to a whole different new level… 😉 Love & best wishes to you. 😉
I must confess she was my favourite goddess and I loved the symbol of freedom and a woman unbound! – also of course the woods and the moon! Beautiful post Aquileana and I love the various interpretations in art.
A great Goddess: I am with you dear Cybele. I am glad to know that you enjoyed this collaboration!… wishing you a great weekend. 😀 Love & best wishes. 🙂
Welcome back, Aquileana. Your posts missed me. Artemis, the goddess of the lunar pallor, is very near to my spirit. I love the moon.
A happy evening.
Hi Newwhitebear… the Moon… and the sun: Artemis and Apollo. I like how mythology explains lmost everything! 😉 wishing you a great weekend. 😀 Love & best wishes. 🙂
wishing you a new great week.
Best wishes
I loved this.
Artemis the Huntress is probably my favourite goddess from Greek mythology.
Hello dear Dracul… Yes!… My favourite Goddesses are both Athena and Artemis 😀
Thank you for dropping by! 😀 Love & best wishes!
Marvellous collaboration bringing depth and resonance.
Thank you very much dear Dave. I hope you are having a great weekend. 😀
Mirjana’s art and poem are gorgeous. As is Resa’s dress — WOW! They are both very talented. How sad for Artemis that she never knew a love where she could lose herself, yet she is the moon goddess. I guess that’s the lot of the moon, to be distant and unreachable.
So true about how certain attributes of the Moon could as well been considered her own feautures… I like your interpretation there, dear Bren… Thank you so much for your words, also on Resa´s and Mirjana´s behalf… wishing you a great weekend. 😀 Love & best wishes. 🙂
Still a few hours of sunshine left in the weekend. I hope your week ahead is magical and full of warmth.
Excellent that the collaboration is now live in all parts! It is sensational 🙂 Learning about the huntress today, she sounds like a strong-willed woman and I think the poem accompaniment accentuates the article well! As for Resa’s gown, it is strikingly beautiful. Well done, ladies!!
Thank you very much dear Chris… I am so glad that you enjoyed the collaboration. And of course, I extended the feeling to Resa & Oloriel… Wishing you a lovely day, B2 … Sending love and hugs! 😀
Great post… creativity elegantly put together! Lovely, Aquileana.
Thank you very much dear Iris 😉 Delighted to know that you enjoyed the collaboration, my friend. Love & best wishes. :
A pleasure, Amalia! Much love 🌹 🙂
I love the Artemis story, and the name Diana also fits that image. It’s amazing how I found this all boring while studying at university and it seems so interesting now. I suppose, not everybody has to study Latin and ancient Greek culture and literature, we had to do it. Certainly, great read, always!
If we are forced to read or study something it will never be the same thing that if we do it for pleasure… or even if we randomly come across something we might consider valuable soon later… 😉 I totally get what you are saying, dear Inese. Thanks so much for your words concerning our collaboration. Love & best wishes. 🙂
A wonderful collaboration! Always so well researched and I enjoy the extras of photos as well. Very best wishes my dear. Xo
Thank you very much dear Sue… so glad to know that you enjoyed the collaboration and liked both the gown and Mirjana´s poem!… have an excellent rest of your weekend. Love & best wishes. 🙂
Simply gorgeous post, thank you Aquileana, Resa and Mirjana! Full moon I think this Sunday.
Thank you very much dear Susan.. your comment is much appreciated… Have a good day. Love & best wishes. 🙂
Another fantastic post, dear Aquileana! I love Artemis and as usual you’ve done a great job of giving out info as well as adding photos. Plus, that poem is great! Hope you have a lovely day 🙂 xo
Thanks so much for your words dear Nathalie… Also on Oloriel´s behalf. I am sure she´ll be glad to know that you liked her poem!… Best to you. Bisous! 😉 ⭐
[…] For today’s second reblog, or ‘press this’ as I thought I would attempt one of those instead is a belated call for attention to Resa’s upcoming kid’s month in March. Thank you very much dear Debbie… we are beyond appreciative for your words!. Hope you are enjoying your vacation!. Love & best to you! 🙂
Thanks for the well wishes Aq. I’m trying to get around to all my favorite blog posters when I can. I’m off to vacation part 2 early next week, and will continue to buzz by when time permits. 🙂 ❤
Great collaboration, dear Aquileana. Love the dress and the poem… Both eloquently presented as are all of your posts. The dual archetypes can be confusing, especially where more than one goddess/god share attributes anyway. Good thing you’re around to clarify things. I need a refresher course! 😉😀💕
Kev!… thank you for such words… Coming from you they mean a lot. Very glad to know that you enjoyed the feature… Love & best wishes! 😀 😉
Always. 🙂
Dear aficionado, your post reminds me about the italian paintress Artemisa Gentileschi (a precursor of feminism four centuries ago). Thanks for the beautiful post. Ciao by Rinaldo Rasa.

Dear Charlotte. I have no clue about that. Let me know if you find something. I totally see you in the role of Artemis/Diana by the way 😀 Thank you very much for your comment and visit here as it is very appreciated…All the best! 😀
What a treat — an new post from Aquileana! I love the idea of the moon chariot. So evocative. I don’t remember that part of the stories, but I admit my education in mythology is mostly self taught. Thanks to your collaborators too. Resa’s gown is absolutely breathtaking! Huge hugs all around. ❤
Hi dear Teagan… thank you so much for your words here… so pleased to read your comment. Maybe you could include the Moon/Sun chariot(s) in a future short story or installment!. 😉 I am looking forward to your next post and to catch up with you on your blog!… Love & hugs to you.

This is a reblog from one of my favorite sites La Audacia de Aquiles hosted by Aquileana on Feb 20, 2017. The post is about Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the hunt and the moon. She is the twin sister of Apollo, God of the Sun. What is found fascinating is that before Artemis became goddess of the moon, the Titaness Selene owned the Moon chariot, which she drove across the sky at night. When Typhon began his path of destruction to Mount Olympus, Selene rode into battle with the moon chariot. Therefore, soon after, Artemis was the legatee of the carriage. In the same way, Apollo received the Chariot of the Sun, once the sun of Helios became identified with him.
Enjoy the post!
HI there dear Linnea … thank you very much for sharing on Apolllo´s Raven. As always your introductory words, as a brief summary, stand out and I like in particular the fact that you highlighted how Apollo, Selene, Helios and Artemis were related, as well as their chariots.
I truly appreciate it!… Wishing you a great weeke ahead! 😀
Again great, enjoyable post. Thank You.
Thank you very much dear Sartenada. Very pleased to know that you enjoyed the collaboration… Love & best wishes 😀
The story of Orion was only half-remembered to me. Artemis as the lonely woman of the woods was an enchanting image for me when I read Greek mythology as a kid. Definitely a goddess who would scarcely have found a place in a modern pantheon… Thank you as always for sharing you knowledge and insight, Aquileana!
Thanks so much!… I am with you as to how Artemis might have resonated and still does among us given her special attributes. Love & best wishes 😀
Thank you for yet another illuminating post about Greek history. I knew nothing about the three moons and goddesses. The gowns are exquisite.
Thank you kindly for such nice wors… Vey glad to know that you enjoyed the feature, symbols and gown included. Love & best wishes 😀
I always love your posts. 😍
This post has definitely piqued my interest 🙂 This line especially stood out: “Solitude means safety and security, while connections run the risks of diminishing the strength of independence.” Such a concept is one I like to debate in the context of my own life. And that dress is divine. It makes me want to have a somewhere to wear it.
Hi there dear Jeri… I also could relate to those lines. I guess that´s why Artemis is considered a feministic goddess so as to speak and as Jean Bolen says in her book!:
I am glad to know that you enjoyed the reading! … And I can not agree with you more as to Resa´s gown, I´d love to wear it too! 😀 😉 Thank you! have a great week ahead! ⭐
Exquisite post, dear Aquileana, and such a fruitful collaboration with Resa. This gown is regal. Poetry of Mirjana is absolutely fascinating. Great team work, as always.
My best wishes xx
Thanks so much dear Inese… It is great to read your comment and we three appreciate your words as to the projects and each one´s contributions!. Love & best wishes 😀
Best wishes to you too! xx
Wow, that is some post I absolutely love that ballgown and the poetry of Mirjana too. So lovely to see teamwork in action in such a positive and interesting way. 🙂
Thank you very much dear Marje! 😉 On Resa´s and Mirjana´s behalf too. I loved to team up with them! Happy week ahead, all my best wishes 😀
Interesting perspectives, the maiden, the mother and the croon, moon waxing, full moon and waning moon. And that with the virginity. Free and untamed. Thanks.
Thank you very much for your kind words and very appreciative to read your comment here …. The three Goddesses symbol and the fact that it is related to the moon is truly fascinating, isn´t it?. Love & best wishes 😀
This is a really cool project! I enjoyed learning more about Artemis. I was really fascinated by her when I first learned about the Greek myths as a child. I was totally amazed that the ancient Greeks had goddesses who were free to do “manly” activities like hunting. I didn’t know the moon association was an attempt to tame her image. I wonder how women at the time would have reacted to it when the change happened. Thanks for the interesting post, the gown and the poem. 🙂
Hi there dear Carolee…. Thank you so much … You are right as to the fact that Hunting is a male activity and yet Artemis is the Hunter Goddess. It seems it is not a mere coincidence but more a statement of principles, so to apeak. MOstly if we keep in mind Artemis´attributes and her own sexuality and ways of experiencing Life!.
As to the Moon associations and how it changed, I assume it was something consensual, hence that the transitions were not forced. Certain goddesses and Gods might have become important later on in time. The interpretation involves The war against of the titans. And presumably Apollo replaced Helios and as Artemis was his twin sister, consequently she replaced Selene.
Thank you very much for such great comment and, overall, for appreciating our collaboaration here… Love & best wishes 😀
😉 Bonne semaine! Bisous! 😉
It has again been like eating a dessert to read your great post and the comments of your impressive comunity!! What touched me most is the, for me, new awareness that chastity could also mean maintenance of a certain freedom. I thank you, dear Aquileana and collaborators for all your work💐
I like how Artemis could be seen as virgin at mind. As if that attribute wouldn´t be necessarily physical. But something that could go beyond!. Thank you very much for your comment and support my friend. I´ll visit you soon to check out your beautiful updates. Love & best wishes. 😀
Reblogged this on Tammy Mezera and commented:
For those of you who don’t know Aquileana, she is the Mythology Goddess.
Thank you very much for sharing and for such nice introductory words, dear Tammy! It means a lot. Love & all the best to you ⭐
Aquil, love and hugs to you to hun! xoxo
Same to you, dear Tammy… xo ❤
this is an epic
historical, Aquileana
which has put an arrow
directly in my heart 🙂
I love your comment, dear Dave… thank you so much for it 😀 ❤
Much love & best wishes! 😉
Beautiful collaboration, ladies! I am always startled by the coincidence in myth stories, Aquileana… in Ireland too we have the triple aspect of maiden, mother and crone to our Goddesses, and our Moon Goddess was Aine. Thank you for sharing your insight and knowledge of Greek myths with us, they are wonderful! 😙😙😙
Hi there dear Ali!… how great to “see” you… Thank you so much for dropping by and leaving your thoughts here. I like to read about the triple aspect in Ireland Mythology. I can find examples for each one of those attributes in Greek Mythology … I was thinking of Hera, probably both mother and crone… But right now I can not find in my mind a goddess which was crone, maiden and mother at the same time.
I didn´t know that Aine was the Irish Greek equivalent for Selene-Artemis and appreciate that you told me!. Maybe some day I´ll do a little bit of compared mythology involving the Pantheon and other mythologies!. 😀
Love & best wishes to you!… 🙂
Now that would be a very interesting post! Let me know if you need any help with the Irish gods and goddesses. 😁
That´s so kind of you!. Thank you Ali! ⭐ Happy rest of your day!
A rich collaboration. I learned that “the Artemis´archetype is “psychologically virginal”, free and untamed,” and that Artemis’ love for Orion ended in tragedy. Then we see the stunning gown, “Artemis by Moonlight.” Gorgeous. Concluding with Mirjana M. Inalman’s haunting poem “Invoking the Huntress.”
A beautiful, bewitching post!
Hi dear JoAnn… I had already written about Artemis. So it was a challenge to choose this Goddess. However I have found so many new things to say and also learned new ones!. The dual archetype (Hunter Goddess-Goddess of the Moon) particularly worked here and in that sense. Thank you so much for appreciating our collaboration and for highlighting relevant points of the post here. I know that Resa & Mirjana will be glad to read your words too!.
Love & best wishes! 😀
Beautiful collaboration. Your works complement each other’s well. 🙂
Thanks so much dear Imelda… Great to “see” you and I thank you on Resa´s and Mirjana´s behalf too. Best wishes and happy week! 🙂

Wishing you a good night ahead, right now dear Hedy! 😀 😉 xx
Thank you Aquileana ❤️
A wonderful post and a very interesting picture of the complexity of the women, of the world. Thank you very much to all of you 🙂
I guess Artemis could depict us as Gender, somehow. We are diverse and complex, and might have different & perhaps opposite attributes as well! 😀 merci beaucoup de me rendre visite Elisa. Bonne semaine! ⭐
My pleasure !
Wonderful..!
Un abrazo enorme, querida Aquileana.
Mil gracias, querida Loli… Abrazo grande para vos! ⭐ ❤
A wonderful collaboration, Aquileana. Well done to the three of you! I’ve read other posts you’ve written involving Artemis and this one adds a few new dimensions for me to think about. I’m fascinated by this many-faceted goddess. Resa’s gown is exquisite – the shimmering copper is a perfect choice for moonlight. Similarly, Mirjana’s poem is beautifully constructed and evokes intriguing images of Artemis the Huntress. Thank you all for an excellent post. 😀
Hello there dear Milie!: It is great to see and thank you very much for such nice words as to the collaboration. I am sure Mirjana and Resa will appreciate your comment too… As to Artemis, it is so interesting to see all her many attributes. A complex goddess indeed … I am pleased to know that you enjoyed this post. Love & best wishes to you! ⭐
What an enjoyable post, Aquileana. And that dress is beyond gorgeous. Have a wonderful week. Love and hugs.

Thank you very much for sharing dear Kate… Very appreciated. Sending love & best wishes ⭐
I love reading your blog because I always learn something, but it’s the integration of all your knowledge disseminated in bite-sized pieces for me to chew on that I admire most, I think.
Thank you very much for your comment Pam!. So pleased that you enjoyed the reading and that you feel the dissection method is effective! 😉 I appreciate the words here… Love & best wishes 🙂
And back to you! Have a great day!😘
Hestia, Athena, and Artemis swore before Zeus that they would remain unmarried, but then it turns out Artemis need only be psychologically virginal? Sounds like she had a good lawyer.
Haha!… one of the reasons we should all look up to her 😀 😉
Hugs Bun. Thanks for the great comment! 🙂
Love how mythology relates to astrology. In fact, it was Mythology that captured my interest first way back when I was much younger.
Thank you for your most delightful post full of valuable information
So true… there are stars and costellations related to many important greek myths. Well pointed-out, Ediie. Thank you for the visit and comment. Love & best wishes 🙂
Hello my my friend!
What an amazing collaborative post, and featuring one of my favorite characters in Greek mythology ❤
As always I enjoy learning so much through your work, and you collaborate with many talented people too 🙂
All best wishes,
Takami
Thank you very much for appreciating the post. I am happy to know that you enjoyed our collaboration on Artemis and your words are much appreciated, dear Takami… Wishing you a great day! ⭐ Love & best wishes 🙂
Seems to me that Artemis was too busy for carnal love anyway. 😉 The moon -in all her phases – continues to hold such a fascination for many. So it was interesting to learn about the various goddesses connected to her. The copper color of that dress is fabulous. I have visited Oloriel’s vibrant blog in the past. Good to see her resonant work featured here.
Hi there dear Julie 😀 thank you so much for dropping by and taking time over here!… I am with you as to Artemis and how she could have been too busy so as to care for “Love”. I´d say she was a feminist goddess, at least to a certain extent and keeping in mind the modern sense of the word! 🙂 So glad to know that you liked Resa´s gown. I was delighted to team up with Mirjana and her!. Sending love & best wishes! ⭐
Excellent post. Artemis is one if my favorites.
Thank You so much, Rob… Very Glad to know that you liked the post. I appreciate the visit, comment and tweet. ❤️

Astrology is so humbling!
Artemis being the huntress Goddess reminds us that we must respect all living things above all & respect its habitat.
Nice to see you’re still writing amazing work!
The girls needed a breather!
So well pointed out: the wild-natural side of Artemis is so important!: I am with you!… It is great to see you FC…. wishing you and the girls an awesome week. 😀
Thank you!!
One of my favorite goddesses as I am astrology sign Virgo and I think Artemis/Diana is like our patron: virgin huntress!
Thanks so much dear Anabelle! I can see the astrological connection!… Males much sense. I will have to post on constellations and their mythological equivalents one of these days!…. I appreciate the viist. Have a great day 😀

BONJOUR belle jeune fille AQUILEANA
Gros Bisous

I stiĺl am having trouble with my wp reader. Your posts never appear on my reader. I am glad to have navigated here.
I love the post about Artemis. Top it with a beautiful collaboration with an artist and a poet. The gown is really stunning..and the poem is just so beautiful as well.
No worries… I know what you mean: it is hard to catch up and even more when the settings change!… Thanks so much for your words here. Resa, Mirjana & me appreciate your words very much!… wishing you a beautiful weekend!. 😀
I didn’t know that Artemis was romantically involved with Orion, so I really enjoyed that snippet. And the gown was just gorgeous–what a great collaboration. 🙂
WOW… and more Wows… What can I say dear Aquileana to this collaboration of beauty, creativity, poetry and art.. All sync together extremely well..
I think both you and Resa are Goddesses 🙂 ❤ … And the Feminine energies are paramount within this post..
Wonderful.. Have a relaxing weekend, and sending Much LOVE your way ❤ Sue xxxx

Thank you so much, for the visit and kind comment… very pleased to know that you enjoyed the collaboration!:.. wishing you a great weekend! ⭐
Impressive article, thank you for sharing, Aquileana. Best wishes 🙂
Thank you so much dear Annette 😀 So glad that you enjoyed it… I appreciate the comment and visit… have a great day 😀 😉
Bravo! You all continue to amaze me, embracing the spirit of Artemis-Diana and all the many hats that she wears – when clothing expresses something! Otherwise…. Artemis the huntress…. wears the woods, perhaps.
Your article was great. I heard, before, that the meaning of ‘virgin’ was not meant as a sexual status/indicator; this was my experience conversationally, and I wasn’t sure of the source. I think the discussion with a friend related back to Virgin Mary. Thank you for including Jean Bolen’s book – truly the meaning of ‘indomitable’ is expressed in the title and in this context! ~ an attractive book for its likely intriguing and through-provoking, inspiring content.
Resa’s dress is wonderfully inspired. The moonshine – I love her choice of copper, and the braids…I love the choices!
The poetry 🙂 Stirs the senses…
being introduced to Mirjana is lovely, too. Wonderful, Aqui! 🙂 Our moon goddesses do inspire – the phases of life. 🙂 🙂 🙂 )0(
Here’s to the enthusiasm in all your creativities and another job well done!
Aloha nui loa,
Ka
Hi there dear Ka.
I love your comment! … Thank you so much! 😀
I thank you on Resa´s and Mirjana´s behalf too. It was a pleasure to team up with them… I am glad that you liked our collaboration! 😀
As to Artemis herself: I see what you mean as to Virgin. And Virgin Mary is a good example. Bolen´s ideas are so rad. I firmly believe that Artemis and Athena would represent Feminism nowadays, with their strong characters.
I would like to read the whole book by Bolen, as I found and excerpt (which I used for the post) on Google Books and can already say it it is worth it.
Back to the female archetype, I guess it is interesting that Artemis is related to the Moon, as the latter has always been associated with femininity and beauty (Hence Venus Aphrodite being also related to the Moon).
I was delighted to read you here, my friend. Thank you again…
Wishing you an excellent week ahead and sending much love! ⭐
Finally I got around to comment this interesting post. I actually did read it long time ago and really enjoyed it. Artemis is maybe one of the better know from the Greek mythology, but so much I didn’t know about her. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much dear Otto… It is great to know that you are there and your support is always appreciated… wishing you an excellent rest of your week. 😀

That dress is amazing!
I always love to gaze at the moon and my mind wanders, now I’ll be thinking about these myths when I admire the moon.
Clowie… How are you?. I am so glad to “see” you 😀 excellent to know that you enjoyed the collaboration and loved Resa´s gown. Wishing you a great day! 😉
Gracias querido Borgeano. Abrazo de Sábado 😀
What a superb collaboration! Resa’s stunning gown and Mirjana’s artwork and exquisite poem complement so well your outstanding work, dear Aquileana. Good to revisit the story of Artemis. You’ve done a wonderful job.
Have a great weekend! ❤ Irina 🙂

I found the duality of Artemis’ symbolism very striking. The poem is excellent, and the gown stunning. As always your illustrations are breathtaking. ❤
Thank you so much, dear Anna. It is great to “see” you and your words are highly appreciated!… Glad to know that you liked the collaboration!. 😉 Wishing you a beautiful week! 😀
I painted Artemis once a long time ago. I destroyed the painting as I wasn’t satisfied with the final outcome. I haven’t tried again since.
Oh… Myybe you should give it a try again?… Please consider the idea 😀
Amazing poetry, art and research Aquileana sorry Im so late to post. Just can’t get around to them all, but enjoyed learning more about this amazing Goddess.

Absolutely STUNNING gown!!! Beautiful poem. Loooove this post about Artemis…so enlightening!

Hello from a new follower. Thank you for popping in to my little blog and for following. I stumbled across your fantastic blog by chance and something clicked into place for me. I’ve been on wordpress a short while, reading lots of blogs, commenting and conversing and reading some more and while I’ve enjoyed quite a bit of what I have read, something was never quite right. I always wanted something a little bit more stimulating, engrossing and well written and I just couldn’t quite find it. Then I read some of your posts and something in my mind spoke up and declared, “Yep, this is it!” So I’ve only read a few posts so far but I am already a fan and so pleased to have found this. I’m actually Greek Cypriot ethnically so I adore mythology and always have. What I have recently discovered through a great deal of reading is the stark similarities between Greek mythology and numerous other legends and mythologies in the world, which for me has imbued the stories and legends I have loved since childhood with a new intrigue. If the legends are so prevalent, so used and referred to and allegorised, even changed to fit in with some huge organised religions, then possibly a spark of truth lies somewhere therein, hidden and masked from us only to be discovered and RE-discovered through research, inquisitive minds and open mindedness.
Well I will stop there! Suffice to say, very happy to have found this and happy that you took the time to read some of my work. 🌺
Hi there!,
Thank you so much for dropping in and for such a beautiful post. It means a lot to me, truly
You say that you often find similarities between Greek mythology and numerous other legends and mythologies: I agree with you… I often think of Carl Jung´s theory of archetypes and Unconcious Collective when I note certain “kinship”… In this post we could see how Hermes, Thoth, Mercury and Odin seem to be equivalents, aamong different cultures… I think this is quite striking as it is hard so many equivalents when it comes to just one God (Goddess)…
You are right when you say that these myhts might contain “truths” or “morals”… We are always learning from MythologY; I´d say… That´s why I find it fascinating. It is a sort of Inexhaustible source of knowledge! 😉
Thank you, again for connecting… Sending love & best wishes. 😉
Amazing : thank you for this warm response. Yes mythology is a seductive temptress- once she’s got you you’re obsessed and must know everything!
Very glad we’ve connected. Just love your blog- did mention that??😂
I couldn´t agree more!!!!! Thank you!… So glad we connected too 😉 Hugs 🙂

Delightful and informative post. I am going to see the moon with different eyes. The gown and the poem complement beautifully.

Thank you for mythological history, images, poems, and especially heart. Like Jean Shinoda Bolen, I’m surprised to find Artemis more pertinent as I grow older. I live in the country with a dog on beautiful land bordering a National Forest and surrounded by wildness. My husband died. My children are grown. I’m planted here with my gardens, wildflowers, butterflies, deer, books, the big sky, and my lunar self in the company of the feminine soul.
Thank you very much for such a beautiful and thought provoking comment dear Elaine. I can see why you feel “close” to Artemis somehow.. I´ll add that she is a free spirit, and independant woman, just like you…. The Artemis archetype is quite relevant for many of us… Sending hugs. 😀 ❤

[…] Aquileana said I could use her as a muse to sketch the Goddess Art Gowns we had done colab posts on. Thinking I’d only get to do 1, she chose Artemis. It was so much fun, I painted the sketch. To read or learn about Goddess Artemis, and to view all of the creative collaboration, which includes a poem by Oloriel, see Aquileana’s post- “Artemis´ Dual Archetype” […]
Thanks so much for the sketches. They are gorgeous, my friend. I´ll add a widget on my blog to your post, of course… and then a link and pics in a future post. Many hugs…. And thank you… thank you … thank you!!!! 😀 🙂
